I become completely inarticulate when I look at the work of German architect J. Mayer H. (yes, he only goes by his middle name).
Have a look around his mind-blowing portfolio site, including the video where he shows off some sort of nano-tech material that morphs into whatever you need it to be.
Very “Biology Era”-ish stuff, especially when he starts talking about surfaces as membranes.
Also, a lot of it is in German. But the pictures aren’t.
